Staying Safe on Social MediaSocialMediaIcons-376-330

In the wake of last week’s Terrorist attack in Christchurch and the horrific live streaming of the perpetrators disgusting actions, we thought a message about how to keep safe on social media might be timely.
With so many of us using social media today, sites like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn make perfect targets for scams.
Here are our top tips to stay safe on social media, taken from several sources:
  • Use a strong password.  The longer it is, the more secure it will be. A phrase can be easy to remember.
  • Be careful about what you share. Don’t reveal personal information: home address, financial information, phone number.  The more you post the easier it is to have your identity stolen.
  • Be selective with friend requests. If you don’t know the person, don’t accept their request.  It could be a fake account.
  • Don’t share every post publicly.
  • Use a different password for each of your social media accounts.
  • Set up your security answers.  This option is available for most social media sites.
  • If you have social media apps on your phone, be sure to password protect your device.
  • Click links with caution.  Social media accounts are regularly hacked.  Look out for language or content that does not sound like something your friend would post.
  • Become familiar with the privacy policies of the social media channels you use and customize your privacy settings to control who sees what.
  • Protect your computer by installing antivirus software.  Also ensure that your browser, operating system, and software have all security updates installed.
  • Remember to log off when you’re done.

FinPOWERConnect has many tools that you might not be aware of or could use better. We've gathered a few tips for you to review .

Tip 1: Managing Tasks

Users can share their tasks with other users with normal user levels.
Sharing allows viewing and editing of the tasks. Sharing can be on a temporary or permanent basis

Through Centrix NZ Smart Id verification and Equifax NZ (formally Veda), finPOWER Connect now supports
  • Driver’s License Verification

  • PEP Watchlist search
Passport Verification
This enquiry returns a report which retrieves information held on the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) database to confirm passport details supplied by an individual.
Driver License Verification
This enquiry returns a Report which retrieves information held on the NZ Transport Agency database to validate driver licence details supplied by an Individual.

Tip 3: NZBN numbers add authenticity

Do you want your business to be more reliable and real? Consider including NZBN # on your email signature, invoice and statement headers.
Why do we need it?NZBNlogo-878-607
  • Shows your business is real
  • Saving time - Speed up access to your core business information

Tip 4: Updates

Your finPOWER Connect database can be setup to show reminder messages when you exit them.   There are built in reminders that can be turned on to ensure you haven’t missed any of the day’s processes.
The warning will show as a pop up message box as you exit:
HHA can also implement customised reminders.  The reminders can be easily changed without needing HHA’s assistance.  The reminders can be targeted to specific users, so users won’t get the reminder if they don’t need them.  The reminders can be set to show both on opening of the database or on exiting the database.
